Initial data
In December 1967, the newspaper Vechernyaya Moskva published an article by TASS correspondent Mikhail Izbenko. He was on board the Soviet Russia whaling station, which was fishing in the Indian sector of the Antarctic, on the instructions of the management.
And during this flight, from the board of a helicopter assigned to the whaling station, snake-like aquatic animals were twice observed lying quietly almost on the surface of the sea. The helicopter pilot, when they appeared, dropped to 30 meters and determined that the "sea serpent" had a light brown color, a body length of up to 20 meters, and the thickness of its trunk reached one meter.
A few minutes later, the crew saw the second "snake", the length of which was about 15 meters. Unfortunately, the pilots could not photograph the monsters, as they did not have the equipment.
This article in the newspaper aroused great interest not only among readers, but also among cryptozoologists-specialists in life forms, who have not yet received official scientific recognition.
However, they were unable to obtain any other information about this case, except for the information contained in Izbenko's article.
Hypotheses
Deliberate falsification
This version includes any falsifications that imitate unexplained phenomena both from the outside: practical jokes, flash mobs, fake news, witness fraud, staging, etc.
There are many ways to make something similar to a ghost or a flying saucer from improvised materials, without using video and photomontage.
Many homemade things made for the sake of a joke, a practical joke or a direct imitation of a mystical being or event can be taken as unexplained not only in photos and videos, but also in reality.
