As reported on October 4, 1988 Pravda newspaper, a group of young Tashkent scientists is going to the taiga of the Kezhemsky district of the Krasnoyarsk Territory for the third time.

The purpose of their search is a clearing in the taiga, called by the locals the devil's cemetery. Local shepherds have long avoided this place. The clearing killed living creatures that accidentally fell on it. Mikhail Panov from the village of Kovy reports the story of a hunter who visited the "devil's cemetery"that he heard before the war:

"The large, round, about 200 m in diameter clearing was terrifying. Bones and carcasses of animals and even birds could be seen here and there on the bare ground. The branches of the trees hanging over the clearing were charred, as if from a nearby fire. The clearing was completely clean, devoid of any vegetation. The dogs visited the clearing for only a few minutes, stopped eating and became sluggish."

N. F. Rukavishnikova in his book "The Chariot of Janatamha" quotes the story of an Indian hunter: "In the north of our region, in the mountains, there is a deep depression, which the locals called the Well of the goddess Bhairabi. They say that a goddess lives there and does not let anyone down. Only monkeys climb there for fruit. A few years ago, a few daredevils went down into that hollow, but none of them returned…

One day I was asked to accompany an official. He was stubborn, quarrelsome. As we drove past the Well, I told him about the goddess and about the brave men who died. The official ordered the car to stop and went to the edge of the depression. After telling me that "all this is nonsense", he urinated down. Before he could get back to the car, he lost consciousness. He died two days later in the hospital, never regaining consciousness…

A few months later, I found myself at the Well again. I was chasing a mad elephant then, I ran after it for several days, I was exhausted, and when I caught up with it, I did not dare to kill it. The elephant was standing on the edge of the hollow with its trunk raised. I was afraid that my shot would roll him down.

— Did the elephant kill many more people?

"He disappeared, no one saw him again."
