On April 8, 1665, at about two o'clock in the afternoon, fishermen anchored near Barkheff (then in Sweden, now in Germany) reported that they saw ships fighting each other in the sky. After the battle, a dark object appeared in the sky.
"After a while, a flat round shape appeared out of the sky, similar to a plate, similar to a large man's hat... Its color was similar to the color of the darkening moon, and it hovered right over the church of St. Nicholas. There it remained motionless until the evening.
The fishermen, alarmed to death, did not want to look at this sight anymore and buried their faces in their hands. In the following days, they fell ill, trembling all over and suffering from pain in their heads and limbs. Many learned people have thought a lot about this," Erasmus Francisci wrote in 1689 in the book "Der wunder-reiche Ueberzug unserer Nider-Welt/Oder Erd-umgebende".
Francisci has collected in this book news reports from 1665 related to this event. The "scientific people" who considered this event and the disease could not determine the causes.

In April 1665, the fishermen living near Barhefft reported a strange incident, something they had never seen in their lives.
Around 14:00 on April 8, 1665, flying combat boats appeared in the sky. A military battle broke out in the sky. After the battle, all warships completely disappeared, and around, a flat black object was found in the sky.

In the book “Der wunder-reiche Überzug unserer Nider-Welt; oder erd-umgebende Lufft-Kreys,” written in 1689 by German scientist Erasmus Francisci (1627 – 1694), it is said:
“After a while out of the sky came a flat round form, like a plate, looking like the big hat of a man… Its color was that of the darkening moon, and it hovered right over the Church of St. Nicolai.
It remained there until the evening. The fishermen were very worried, did not want to take a closer look at the scene and covered their faces with their hands. In the following days, they were sick, their whole body trembled, had headaches and sore legs.”
Scientists at that time could not explain this event on April 8, 1665. Until now, the question of a strange event and the illness of the fishermen remains open.
In June 2015, two U.S. UFO and anomaly experts, Chris Aubeck and Martin Shough described their investigation of this event exactly 350 years later in EdgeScience.
Obek and Shough have different views on this phenomenon.
According to them, it is likely that the fishermen at that time had an illusion with the complex name Fata Morgana. This is a kind of illusion when a visible object appears just above the horizon, in the presence of a mixture of thermal layers in the air.
