Initial data
New Zealanders have witnessed an unusual phenomenon in the sky. This is reported by The Guardian.
The phenomenon looked like a slowly rotating light disk with long spikes.
"It was like a huge spiral galaxy that was just hanging in the sky and slowly drifting," said local guide Alasdair Burns.
A lot of hypotheses linking the phenomenon with paranormal phenomena appeared on the Internet at once.
Nevertheless, a scientific version has also appeared. So, according to physicist Richard Easter from the University of Auckland, it may be a trace from a rocket that puts a satellite into orbit.
"When the fuel is ejected from behind, you have what is essentially water and carbon dioxide. They briefly form a cloud in space, illuminated by the sun," he said.
Hypotheses
Booster, the rocket and tracks

For UFOs often take stages of rockets, parts of space ships burning in the atmosphere, the launches of various missile technology for military purposes, etc., and traces from them. They attract attention mostly in the dark, but in the day time have a greater aura of mystery.
Formation of the track of the launch vehicle occurs in the tropopause (the layer between the troposphere and stratosphere), which sharply reduced the vertical temperature gradient. The emergence of the so-called "jellyfish" influenced by water vapor, which are subject to enhanced condensation.

News: Elon Musk's SpaceX rocket was mistaken for an "alien spaceship" in the sky

Strange blue light spirals traveling through the night sky in New Zealand have made observers wonder if it could be an alien spaceship.
The misty spiral formed in space over Nelson, a city on the tip of the south island of New Zealand, and then at about 19:30 on Sunday went 750 km south to Stewart Island.
