Anonymous letter to the Commission on the:

I don't give my address or last name - it doesn't matter. I'm just describing exactly the event that I and several of my comrades witnessed. This event happened about a year ago, when I was still in the 8th grade.

I still remember that day. All this took place between 8 and 9 pm. We (there were about 5 of us) were walking along a deserted street of our village and talking about something. Suddenly someone pulled me on the shoulder "Look!" Everyone looked up.

A smooth round ball of bright yellow color raced over our heads at the speed of a car (60-70 km / h), bordered by a purple glow at the edges (if you look at the Moon through binoculars in the evening, then you will also think that its bright white disk is bordered on the sides by purple). A "tail" was writhing behind the ball (probably 2 meters in length). The ball wasn't very big-an adult could probably wrap his arms around it. He was flying at about the height of a five-story building.

Everything I described may have looked like a ball lightning, but I forgot to say that all this happened somewhere at the end of February (I think 25) last year, there was snow on the street.

The ball was not a meteorite - it flew exactly horizontally at a constant speed. Besides, if it was a meteorite (and it was flying, as I said, quite low above the ground), we would have heard a noise - the result of its fall. Our balloon was not falling, but flying.

Hypotheses

List of versions containing features matching the eyewitness descriptions or material evidence

Meteor

Meteor, "shooting star" is a phenomenon that occurs when small meteor bodies (for example, fragments of comets or asteroids) burn up in the Earth's atmosphere. A similar phenomenon of greater intensity (brighter than magnitude -4) it's called a fireball.

Booster, the rocket and tracks

For UFOs often take stages of rockets, parts of space ships burning in the atmosphere, the launches of various missile technology for military purposes, etc., and traces from them. They attract attention mostly in the dark, but in the day time have a greater aura of mystery.

Formation of the track of the launch vehicle occurs in the tropopause (the layer between the troposphere and stratosphere), which sharply reduced the vertical temperature gradient. The emergence of the so-called "jellyfish" influenced by water vapor, which are subject to enhanced condensation.

Airplane / Helicopter

An aircraft is heavier than air for flights in the atmosphere (and outer space (e.g. An orbital aircraft)), which uses the airframe's aerodynamic lift to keep itself in the air (when flying within the atmosphere) and the thrust of the power (propulsion) installation for maneuvering and compensating for the loss of total mechanical energy on drag.

Ball lightning

A rare natural phenomenon, a unified physical theory of the origin and course of which has not been presented to date.

There are about 200 theories explaining the phenomenon, but none of them has received absolute recognition in the academic environment. Since this phenomenon was introduced into the scientific sphere by the English physician and researcher of electrical engineering William Snow Harris in 1843, and a scientist of the French Academy Francois Arago in 1855, many hypotheses were put forward. Here are selectively some of them:
