Yerkovich P.I. writes to the Commission on AYA.:
Reading your article in Trud "exactly at 4.10" for January 30, 1985 and reaching the place "a tail grew out of it", my memories immediately took me almost 5 years back to the Novgorod region.
It happened on the night of July 23-24, 1980 around 2-35. I observed the following picture in the sky. A luminous ball resembling the sun appeared, with regular lines-bends (rays). Inside, in the middle of the ball, a curve resembling a sine wave was clearly outlined.
So what, I thought. Some kind of star, a celestial body, or something. But when this ball began to change its structure, I decided to observe this phenomenon anyway.
"Maybe it's the so-called optical illusion," I was at a loss to guess. However, no. The change in the shape of the object became more and more distinct. The "sun" turned out to be an incomprehensible crystal lattice.
Such changes lasted about 3 minutes. Then the object disappeared.

For UFOs often take stages of rockets, parts of space ships burning in the atmosphere, the launches of various missile technology for military purposes, etc., and traces from them. They attract attention mostly in the dark, but in the day time have a greater aura of mystery.
Formation of the track of the launch vehicle occurs in the tropopause (the layer between the troposphere and stratosphere), which sharply reduced the vertical temperature gradient. The emergence of the so-called "jellyfish" influenced by water vapor, which are subject to enhanced condensation.
