Initial data

Initial information from sources or from an eyewitness
Incident date:
1977 23:30
Location:
Pskovskaya oblast
Russia

Shamakov Alexander Egorovich writes to the Commission on:

I once observed such a phenomenon. It was in the Pskov region. It was a frosty moonlit night. The sky was clear. When I came home from the cinema, and it was about 23-30, I went outside. Then such a phenomenon caught my attention. about 5000-6000 m from the ground, or maybe more, at the same distance from each other, two fiery red balls, slightly larger than a football, were flying.

And what surprised me was that they flew without any noise parallel to each other at the same speed.

This phenomenon was observed for about 10-15 seconds. Then they disappeared from my sight.

After this phenomenon, one slightly noticeable smoky trail remained at the place of their flight. I observed this phenomenon in the winter of 1977.

Hypotheses

List of versions containing features matching the eyewitness descriptions or material evidence

Meteor

Meteor, "shooting star" is a phenomenon that occurs when small meteor bodies (for example, fragments of comets or asteroids) burn up in the Earth's atmosphere. A similar phenomenon of greater intensity (brighter than magnitude -4) it's called a fireball.

Pyrotechnics

This category includes not only pyrotechnic projectiles visible in the sky, but also traces of exploded projectiles, their fragments and other similar activities.

Pyrotechnics is a branch of technology related to the technology of preparing combustible compounds and burning them to obtain a certain signal or effect.

Divided into:

Airplane / Helicopter

An aircraft heavier than air for flights in the atmosphere (and outer space (e.g. An orbital aircraft)), using the aerodynamic lift of a glider to keep itself in the air (when flying within the atmosphere) and the thrust of a power (propulsion) installation for maneuvering and compensating for the loss of total mechanical energy to drag.

A rotorcraft in which the lift and thrust required for flight are created by one or more main rotors powered by an engine or several engines. They differ in maneuverability, the ability to hover and almost vertical takeoff.

Satellite

Ordinary satellites, which often look like single, not very bright luminous dots moving smoothly in the night sky, are quite often mistaken for UFOs. After the Starlink satellites (near-Earth satellite systems developed by SpaceX, in order to create a cheap and high-performance satellite Internet communication channel and technical transmitters for receiving and transmitting signals from earth and orbit) were launched, it became possible to observe groups of satellites (up to 60 pieces) flying one after another.
