Syzygy

In Comiti, new Hampshire, a group of high school students commemorate their dead friend, who is rumored to have fallen victim to a local satanic cult. Two girls, Terri Roberts and Margie Kleingen, ask local hunk Jay de Boom to drive them home. After telling the guy that the cult has chosen a blonde virgin as the next victim, the friends convince Boom to turn off the road. The next morning, the police find Boom hanging from a cliff. Out of sight of the police, Terry and Margie laugh merrily as they sit on top of a cliff.

Mulder and Scully arrive in Komiti, having a fight over the tangled road and the fact that Mulder is always driving on their trips together. After meeting with detective Angela white, the agents go to Boom's funeral, with Scully very skeptical of white's claims of a satanic cult. The funeral is interrupted by school principal Bob Spitz with a diatribe about the actions of Satanists, but at this moment the coffin with the body of the deceased ignites. Margie and Terry, interviewed separately by Mulder and Scully, all agree that Boom was the victim of Satanists who had previously sacrificed a baby whose body was buried in a mass grave. Scully thinks the girls ' testimony is cliched fiction. Mulder is less skeptical, and on this basis gets closer to white, who believes in the existence of the cult. Finding a horned animal print on Boom's burned body, Mulder and white go to the local astrologer, Madame Zirinka. TA claims that the abnormal behavior of citizens is associated with the rare construction of Mars, Uranus and mercury. Meanwhile, while watching the school basketball practice, Terry and Margie admire the handsome guy Scott, but they hate to talk about his girlfriend Brenda. After one of the players accidentally knocks down a table with drinks, at which Terry and Margie are sitting, he is crushed to death by the established bleachers. Scully is angry at Mulder for choosing to pursue the case with detective white.

A crowd of citizens in search of a mass grave finds a buried briefcase with remains taken for human. Found by the monogram on the briefcase, the owner admits that he sold the item long ago. Upon further inspection, the briefcase reveals the collar of "Mr. Tippy" – a dog that belonged to Terry. Enraged by Mulder's joke, Scully goes to Washington, but that evening, during Margie and Terry's birthday party, Brenda is killed by Shards of broken bathroom mirror. Scully goes to the Motel to report this to Mulder and finds his partner and detective white half-naked in bed. Terry and Margie comfort Scott, but when he rejects them, Margie, unlike her friend, still has warm feelings for him.

Mulder goes to see Madame Zirinka, who informs him of a rare construction of planets that cause those born on January 12, 1979 (the birthday of Margie and Terry) to have an overabundance of cosmic energy. Margie and Terry drive separately to Scott's house, but when they meet, they clash and accidentally kill Scott with a broken garage door spring. Margie rushes to tell Mulder that Terry is the killer, while Terry, in a conversation with Scully, informs on Margie. The agents call and bring the girls to the police station, where the furniture begins to shake, and the police's service weapons start shooting uncontrollably. After the clock passes midnight, there is complete calm, and the girls, having lost their supernatural abilities, are reconciled. Mulder and Scully go home, and Scully purposely passes a STOP sign, and at Mulder's timid reminders, orders him to shut up.
