Total lunar eclipse visible from East Asia, Australia, the Pacific and the Americas, is expected on May 26 this year. The Earth will pass between the Moon and the Sun from 09: 45 to 12: 52 Coordinated Universal Time, according to The Watchers.
The total eclipse will last from 11: 12 to 11: 26, peaking at 11: 18 UTC.
According to eclipse expert Fred Espenak, during this eclipse, the Moon will be in the constellation of Scorpio. The eclipse belongs to Saros 121 and is number 55 of the 82 eclipses in this series.
A total lunar eclipse occurs when the Earth's shadow moves across the Moon, blocking light from the Sun. As the shadow glides across the Moon's surface, it takes on a peculiar red glow-an effect caused by the bending of light in the Earth's atmosphere. The longest eclipse of the 20th century was on July 16, 2000. It lasted 1 hour, 46 minutes and 24 seconds.
Two weeks later, the lunar eclipse will be followed by an annular solar eclipse on June 10, 2021.
