This beautiful picture of the Icelandic volcano Geldingadalur was taken by Violeta Gorecka on the shore of the famous Blue Lagoon. In the image, you can see the result of both geothermal (volcanic eruption) and geomagnetic (northern blue) activities.

The idea of the picture was suggested to her by her friend — to take a photo of three natural objects at once, including the Geldingadalur volcano, which began to erupt, the Northern Lights and the Blue Lagoon. On March 31, a small burst of geomagnetic activity caused green flares to appear near the volcanic plume, and both phenomena were reflected in the serene waters of the lagoon.

According to the Icelandic meteorological service, on March 19, the first eruption of a volcano in 800 years began on the Reykjavik peninsula. On the Geldingadalur volcano, which is located 30 km from Reykjavik, a 500-meter crack opened — lava flows rushed into the Geldingadalur Valley.
