Creatures from Peruvian legends. Translated from Quechua, "yaku" means water, and "rune" means a man, a man.
According to legend, the Yakuruns live in the depths of rivers or lakes, in palaces of unimaginable luxury made of gold and pearls. Sometimes they come to the surface or come to the mouths of rivers and take with them under the water the people they meet on their way.
There are many stories about people who mysteriously disappeared from canoes or boats, or even from the banks of rivers, where they went to get fresh water or swim. The Yakuruns are skilled at singing, and their singing attracts women who hear them. Their influence is especially strong if a woman looks into Yakurun's eyes at the same time, since his eyes have a hypnotic effect.
According to beliefs, women and men who followed Yakurun continue to live underwater at the depths of rivers and lakes of the Selva.
