An unidentified brown or black liquid has coated properties in the eastern Las Vegas valley, worrying the people living there.

On February 10 2022, popular Twitter account @LasVegasLocally tweeted about a “mysterious black liquid” that purportedly had “been falling on people in East Las Vegas for weeks.” Neither the Imgur post nor the tweet included any additional information about Las Vegas and the mysterious black liquid situation.

Over on Reddit, the same screenshot was shared to r/WhitePeopleTwitter and r/XFiles:

Aside from the few social media posts about the mysterious black liquid in Las Vegas, very little corroborating information appeared to be available. What little coverage there was suggested the issue was both highly localized and accurately described.

On February 10 2022, Vegas-area news station KTNV published a segment to YouTube, titled “No explanation for ‘mystery liquid’ falling from sky over neighborhood.” The outlet also tweeted about the droplets on the morning of February 10 2022:

An attached article by KTNV, “No explanation for ‘mystery liquid’ falling from sky over neighborhood,” reported that residents of the Las Vegas neighborhood observed the “mystery liquid” falling from the sky over the previous three to four weeks:

People in one Eastern Las Vegas neighborhood near Hollywood Blvd. and Charleston Ave. have been completely perplexed for weeks as mysterious brown or black droplets have fallen on their properties.

KTNV spoke to one resident on camera, adding that others declined to be interviewed (but that they had corroborated the story.) Footage in the segment showed vehicles and structured marked by dark smudges:

“It could be grease? Oil? I don’t know,” [resident Marcus] Cervantes said while looking at the hood of his mystery liquid coated SUV. “It’s very hard to maintain my vehicles. It’s very very difficult to be outside in my backyard knowing that I can’t even cook or barbecue or anything like that because of droplets on my food.”

Neighbors in the area declined an interview, but said they’ve all experienced the same thing with no explanation.

The outlet reported that the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) did not respond to a request for comment, adding:

The Nevada Department of Conservation referred a KTNV request to the Division of Environmental Protection and the DEP hadn’t responded to inquiry by publication.

A popular Imgur post titled “mysterious black liquid falling in Las Vegas” featured a screenshot from @LasVegasLocally on Twitter. The claim was substantiated by local news station KTNV’s coverage of the “mystery liquid,” complete with firsthand accounnts.
