Un alto funcionario de la compañía petrolera Kuwaití (KOC) dijo a la Embajada que el OVNI, "... que apareció por primera vez sobre los campos petroleros del Norte, aparentemente produjo cosas extrañas con el equipo de bombeo automático de KOC".
Este equipo está diseñado para apagarse cuando se produce una falla que puede dañar gravemente el sistema de recolección y transporte de petróleo, y solo se puede reiniciar manualmente.
En el momento en que apareció el OVNI, la estación de bombeo se apagó automáticamente, y cuando el OVNI desapareció, el sistema volvió a funcionar.
Ocho Ovnis fueron vistos entre el 9 de noviembre y el 14 de diciembre de 1978 en el área del centro de extracción de petróleo cerca de Kuwait, Kuwait. El gobierno ha designado un Comité de expertos del Instituto de investigaciones científicas de Kuwait para que lo investigue.
Un portavoz del Instituto, Ratib Abu EID, dijo a los funcionarios de la Embajada de los Estados Unidos que rechazaron la idea de dispositivos de espionaje y no sabían lo suficiente sobre el tema como para excluir a las naves espaciales.

Summary: A senior official of the Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) reported to the embassy that the UFO “…which first appeared over the northern oil fields seemingly did strange things to KOC’s automatic pumping equipment. This equipment is designed to shut itself down when there is some failure which may seriously damage the petroleum gathering and transmission system and it can only be restarted manually. At the time of the UFO’s appearance the pumping station automatically shut itself down and when the UFO vanished the system started itself up again. Eight UFOs were sighted between Nov. 9 and Dec. 14,1978, in the vicinity of an oil-gathering center near Kuwait City, Kuwait The government appointed a committee of experts from the Kuwait Institute For Scientific Research to investigate. An Institute representative, Ratib Abu Id, told U.S. embassy officials that they had rejected the idea of espionage devices and did not know enough about the subject to rule out spaceships.
