An eyewitness from the city of Grenekan reports:
to the east of Grenekan there was a ray of blue light. The beam silently moved at high speed towards the A12 and then southwest over Overvecht. It seemed unnecessarily fast for the helicopter, so he was silent.

GROENEKAN, UT — Ten oosten van Groenekan een blauwe lichtstraal waargenomen. De straal bewoog zich, zonder geluid, met flinke snelheid richting de A12, en daarna zuid west boven Overvecht. Leek onredelijk snel voor een helicopter, en was dus ook zonder geluid.

Lasers, searchlights, car headlights and other light sources of sufficient power can form a column of light in a dusty or foggy atmosphere, various patterns on low clouds, fog or haze. Also, the rays can highlight parts of the cloud, objects or birds, giving them bizarre shapes.
Searchlights can shine with one beam, several. They can be stationary, move, and also form spinning carousels on the clouds, which can change shape and color.

News: The cause of the mysterious purple light
In the Netherlands, witnesses from many cities talked about purple or blue glow that moves across the night sky.
