Initial data
Between Bolton Abbey and Addingham near Skipton, North Yorkshire, while driving with his wife, Tony Dodd noticed a large disc-shaped UFO approaching the car to their right.
He estimated the size of the ship to be four times larger than the car. It was at a low altitude and flew almost directly over the roof of the car, and then disappeared behind the nearest trees.
His wife described it as a child's spinning top.
A few moments later, the same UFO appeared again and again rushed to the car.
PS Dodd stopped the car and took a series of pictures of the object as it receded into the distance.
The photos were later sent to a research center called Ground Saucer Watch in Arizona, which specializes in analyzing the resulting UFO images. After analysis, they concluded that the photos showed a real UFO on film, which is one of the few that meet their strict criteria.
They estimated that the object was 30 feet (9 m) in diameter and had a shape close to spherical. This is a series of observations by an officer who later became one of the world's leading authorities on the subject of UFOs.
