Scientists have long considered what lies behind the underwater bubbles. As it turned out, these are the embryos of the squid Illex coindetii. The object was first discovered on the coast of Norway, it was found by local divers. The size of the bubble was also impressive, the width was more than a meter. The bubble itself hovered between the surface and the bottom. In the center was a strip, and so the bubble was like a transparent circle.
Also, the appearance of underwater transparent pebbles was recorded in 1985. Back then, they were on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea. In the following years, more than a hundred such cases were discovered. No one undertook to study their nature or to classify them in any way.
The DNA analysis helped to get to the truth. With the help of it, the researchers found that these are squid eggs. Each bubble can contain several thousand squid eggs, they are located in the mucous membrane. The mucous membrane protects the eggs from damage.
Researchers have been observing this type of squid for more than two hundred years, but underwater bubbles with their eggs were not found so often. Particular interest is focused on the development of embryos and the mucous membrane, which acts as a protective mechanism. Therefore, scientists will continue to monitor the development of bubbles. Such plans were made public by researcher Halldis Ringvold.
