Engineer Yuri Nikolaevich writes to the Commission on:
On June 22, 1979, I and 3 other people were driving in a car along the Moscow-Riga highway towards Riga.
At 23:00 on 175 km of highway in a southwesterly direction, we suddenly saw a bright crimson object in the sky at about 30 degrees to the horizon. It rather resembled a bright crimson lantern with blurred edges hanging in the sky.
I turned off the engine and we got out of the car, continuing to observe the object.
The "Lantern" began to move slowly across the sky to the east. At that moment, a flare was launched from the ground towards the object. after flying about 2-3 distances to the object, it went out. The Lantern was 100 times larger than the rocket in size.
After flying an arc of about 90 degrees, the "lantern" suddenly turned into a blue dash with a slightly convex top shape, which moved upwards with great speed in a southeasterly direction, gradually decreasing in size, flickering disappeared.
We got into the car and, just as I was about to start, I saw the exact same object "lantern" again in the same place in the sky.
This time, another object separated from it in the form of a blue dash (again convex upward shape), which moved away at high speed (in 10-15 seconds), decreasing in size in a southwesterly direction.
The "Lantern" described exactly the same path across the sky as the first one, at the same point it "turned" into a blue dash and covered in a south-easterly direction.
