Voronezh is a city in the European part of Russia, the administrative center of the Voronezh Region. It is located on the banks of the Voronezh reservoir of the Voronezh River. The population of the city of Voronezh is 991.2 thousand people. Voronezh airport is located near the village of Chertovitsy, 5 km from the city border. Since 1995, the airport has an international status. There is an experimental (test) airfield "Pridacha" in the Levoberezhny district on the territory of the aircraft-building enterprise of JSC VASO. The airfield is also used by civil aviation of CJSC Aviation Company Polet. In the Sovetsky district of the city, near the Shady microdistrict and the suburban cooperatives "Near Gardens" and "Distant Gardens", there is a military airfield "Baltimore".
If we consider the statistics of anomalous evidence of the city of Voronezh, then on average for the year (for 2012) recently:
- the first place will be occupied by stories about UFOs (more than 150);
- in second place are various manifestations of poltergeist (about 50);
- the third place is shared by meetings with ghosts and encounters with strange animals (depending on the year, the number of testimonies of both ranges from 30 to 60);
- other phenomena in the city are rare (the total number of such evidence does not exceed 10).
All these are, as a rule, isolated cases. Separately, it is worth dwelling on the phenomena of the poltergeist. Its appearance rarely happens once, so the places of occurrence of this phenomenon can also be conditionally called anomalous zones with a life span of several weeks to a year. There are up to 10-15 active such places in each month.
In addition to numerous evidences of private manifestations of phenomena, there are public places in Voronezh that are considered anomalous zones. These places have already become urban legends and, even if nothing mystical has been happening in them for a long time, well-known stories are still transmitted by the residents of the city. Mentions of them can be found in newspaper articles, the Internet and even in special literature. Below we will consider in detail each of these places.
1 - Park "The Living and the Dead"; 2 - Lenin Square; 3 - The Temple of Samuel the Prophet; 4 - Monument on a mass grave (Sandy Log); 5 – Park "Yuzhny" ("Goat"); 6 – Chernavsky Bridge; 7 - Akatov Convent; 8 - Path on Dzinskovsky Street; 9 - Rotunda; 10 – Theater "Green"; 11 - House on January 25; 12 - Lake "Swan"; 13 - A clearing near the Campus.
All photos were taken before the reconstruction of these places and many are no longer relevant. We wanted to show these places exactly as most Voronezh residents remember them in their "active mystical" times. Now they are already largely deprived of that mysterious look associated with the renewal of the appearance of the city and repair.
Park of the Living and the Dead
Previously, there was a Novo-Mitrofanovskoye cemetery on this site. Now there are only a few graves of famous personalities left there. Immediately after the formation of the park, people often saw ghosts in its alleys, over time such cases began to occur less and less and now they have almost disappeared. A circus was also built nearby in 1975. Animals in the Circus sometimes behaved uneasily, there was unreasonable fear, which in some cases even had to cancel performances.
Lenin Square
The area under the outstretched arm of the monument to V.I. Lenin is considered abnormal. Here, on the leader's arm, a partisan was hanged during the occupation. In addition to the unpleasant sensations experienced by many in this place, in the morning, pre-dawn hours, shadow-like silhouettes and scenes from past years are sometimes seen here.
The site of the former Chugunovsky cemetery
Next to the temple is the Voznesensky cemetery, popularly called Chugunovsky by the nickname of the merchant-benefactor. The Chugunovo cemetery has been the largest in Voronezh since the XIX century. In fact, it had several divisions: Lutheran burials were located on the right (the territory of the modern Television Center), a military cemetery was located in the center (modern Third International Street), patients and prisoners were buried to the left (not far from the city prison).
In 1960, the construction of the Yubileyny sports complex began on the territory of the former Chugunovsky cemetery. [5] Now there are several tombstones and a memorial monument near the temple of Samuel the Prophet.
It is difficult to say why the territory around the temple is considered abnormal by many. It is believed that ghosts often appear here, as well as that in this place people feel various unpleasant sensations, ranging from mild malaise to panic attacks.
Monument on the mass grave (Sandy Log)
On the southern outskirts of the city of Voronezh, on the road to the village of Malyshevo, there is a Memorial complex Sandy Log. There is a monument on the mass grave of 450 Voronezh civilians who were brutally tortured by the Nazis in 1942. Some claim that in the evening, pre-dawn and night hours here you can hear the moans of the dead, as well as see the scenes of those terrible events.
Park "Yuzhny" ("Koziy")
Yuzhny Park. UFO landing site (Photo F. Kisileva)
First there was an article in the newspaper "Commune" "Football with aliens", then the Soviet telegraph agency (TASS) reported about this case, then the news has already spread around the world media, and the Discovery channel has made a documentary about the "Voronezh phenomenon" and now Voronezh is known to every person interested in ufology anywhere in the world.
Photo of the beginning of the article "Football with aliens"
This event can be divided into 2 parts. The first is a story about the landing of an object in the Yuzhny Park, called the "Voronezh Phenomenon", and the second is a huge number of eyewitnesses throughout the city who saw various UFOs for several months in 1989.
If we talk very briefly about the "Voronezh phenomenon", then on September 27, 1989, several children, students of grades 5-7, witnessed the landing of an unusual object in the shape of a ball and the exit of strange creatures from it.
These events well deserve a separate article, since a whole book is devoted to them and such a huge number of interesting details cannot be described in a nutshell. Even the book was clearly not enough, since it omitted essential details, so it would be interesting to look at the original materials, if they are still preserved.
Now the park is heavily overgrown in some places, and in some places a reorganization has been carried out and a playground has appeared. Children play, adults walk, and the owners walk the dogs. Since then, nothing so unusual has happened in these places, but if you try, you can find the place where, according to the guys, an unidentified object landed back in 1989.
Chernavsky Bridge
Near the Chernavsky Bridge in the period from 1993 to 1998, at the beginning of winter, fishermen noticed bright flashes like the northern lights over the reservoir, but the fire pillars had an obvious graphic outline in the form of two letters X.3. Now UFOs are sometimes seen in this place.
Akatov Convent
Before the start of the war, in mid-June 1941, worshipful citizens saw heavenly signs in the form of a huge glowing cross over the belfry of the monastery. The same phenomenon was observed a week before Stalin's death. Although there is no more information about such events.
The path on Dzinskovsky Street
The Thorn cemetery is the oldest surviving one in the city, it was founded at the beginning of the XVIII century. Since the 1930s, the cemetery has been abandoned, and the tombstones were slowly removed from there and used for various urban needs - even to the point that they paved the streets. In the 90s, despite the fact that the cemetery was given the status of a historical monument, they tried to give the territory for building. However, local historians and local residents managed to defend it.
In general, it is believed that in Voronezh quite a lot of streets, paths and descents are made of gravestones taken, for example, from dismantled cemeteries. Asphalt was laid on top of some, some were reconstructed and returned to their place. It is believed that such places include (or were - the cemetery was going to be reconstructed for a long time.) a path near the Thorn Cemetery. Urban legend says that shadow-like silhouettes sometimes move along this path. In general, such legends apply to all places in the construction of which tombstones were clearly or rumored to have been used. However, we did not encounter facts with personal testimonies.
Once, a long time ago, I personally happened to go down one of these stairs to the reservoir. It was very wild to walk on the tombstones, on which the inscriptions were read. But apart from unpleasant sensations associated with morality, nothing was noticed – no silhouettes, no other sensations.
The most famous of these stairs is located on the street Velvet Hillock. For many years, locals have seen a ghostly girl on it at night, who was nicknamed Praskovya by the name that was carved on the stone on which she always sat. The ghost did not touch anyone, only people heard him crying at night. She doesn't show up there anymore now.
Rotunda
The dome of the central part of the former regional hospital, which survived after fierce fighting.
When asked to name the mystical place of Voronezh, 8 out of 10 answers will name the Rotunda first. However, few people can say why this place is mystical. It is believed that ghostly figures are sometimes seen here.
The Green Theater
Dynamo Park is about 160 years old. During this time, he changed the name four times: "Nerd", the Park named after him. Kaganovich Park. Gorky and, finally, Dynamo. In 1988, the park area was flooded due to an accident in the Voronezh reservoir system. The height of the water reached 3.5-4 meters, and after the flood only a few buildings survived.
An alley with lanterns led to the Green Theater, a famous place for romantic walks. The theater itself was an architectural complex with hemispherical windows and vaults decorated with frescoes. The spectators were located on a 20-meter slope with benches. Movies were shown here almost every evening, and on summer weekends it was possible to watch performances and concerts of touring troupes, as well as performances by amateur groups.
The Green Theater was temporarily closed for the first time due to flooding in 1988. The second, already final closure occurred a year later, after the tour of the band "Tender May", because nine people were crushed to death by a crowd of fans during the concert, 10 years ago the ruins of the theater were considered a suitable place for a paintball club, but its organization never took place.
The territory of the theater is a picturesque ruin. According to rumors, Satanists regularly gather under the stage, in the basements of the Green Theater and commit orgies with human sacrifices. It is difficult to say how true these rumors are: every day, especially on weekends, a huge number of people gather in these places. Someone to dance and sing to the fervent playing of harmonicists, who are located on park benches, someone to take a walk with children, someone to plunge into the cold water of an equipped spring, and someone to take a good photo.
This place is considered by many to be a place of power. Many people experience unpleasant sensations in this place. Someone even complains about strange visions. The compass in this place turns the arrow and shows incorrect data. This behavior of the compass may be due to nearby power cables passing under the theater. Now photographers have chosen this place, and dozens of people take hundreds of photos here on a day off.
For the next 10 years, we did not know of any unusual photos from this place. If someone has them, please respond and provide them to us. Perhaps this place is really anomalous and needs to be studied.
The house on January 25 street
The house No. 14 on January 25 Street is known to many Voronezh residents by the fact that it was struck by ball lightning 3 times in 20 years. After her appearance, she left traces in the form of burnt grids on the windows and broken glass.
Photo from the article dedicated to this case
According to local newspapers, the last such case occurred in the summer of 2001.
Lake "Swan"
Swan Lake in the park on Minskaya Street has long been a symbol of the Railway district and a favorite vacation spot. People came here with children, people were pleased with the abundance of greenery, cozy atmosphere, silence, but most of all - white swans floating on the water surface. You could watch their smooth movements for hours, admiring their grace, perfect beauty. Initially, the lake was filled with underground springs, over time these sources became clogged, the water began to be topped up. But gradually the park fell into desolation, the vegetation withered, the water overgrown with mud, began to resemble a swamp. By the 425th anniversary of Voronezh, the park was reconstructed.
Near the Minskaya stop in the suffocating summer of 1972, residents of nearby houses saw a strong bluish glow of water in a reservoir called Swan Lake. This fact is known from a single publication in the media and it was not possible to find more information or personal evidence. Nothing else unusual was observed here.
Forest area near the campus
In the mid-80s, people saw a phenomenon similar to a UFO landing. According to calculations, the landing should have been in a clearing located in a wooded area somewhere between the Yamnoye and the residential area "Zadonye".
Also, local residents in the 80s-90s saw a strange creature here, similar to a large dog, which can climb trees and move extremely fast. Someone calls him a yeti, someone a werewolf. Many who know this urban legend even connect these two events.
By the way, people often choose these places for recreation. Including active ones: festivals of historical reconstruction and role modeling are held in autumn and spring. There is also an airsoft training ground and a military field training ground. Perhaps this is the reason for the frequent evidence of the appearance of "people from the past" in these places and manifestations of "memory of space".
The ghost from the DC of the 50th anniversary of October
The ghost of a girl in a white robe scared all the local night watchmen and lost travelers in the early 90s of the last century.
Tavrovo microdistrict, Levoberezhny district of Voronezh.
A wish fulfillment stone, on which a ghost is sometimes seen (adults see it only from the water while boating, children under 5 years old see a ghost much more often) and evidence of a goblin or yeti (a tall and hunchbacked man, more than two meters tall, covered with fur), who is seen in the forest outside the village.
Sovetskaya Square
This is the area of the former meat bazaar (until the sixties of the twentieth century). Now there is a square near the Voronezh Concert Hall, but it is believed that the place still carries the strongest energy of blood and animal killings.
Voronezh Catacombs
It is worth mentioning the Voronezh catacombs, which once connected monasteries to escape in case of an attack on the city, in the XX century. It is believed that they are inhabited by many ghosts (probably even guarding treasures). The most famous is the ghost of a monk. Few people know where the entrances to these catacombs are, but in almost every courtyard you can meet a person who once was in them or knew someone who was. For example, it turned out that in the 80s there was a "hole" near the Chernavsky Bridge, which led to the center, many more made their way to the catacombs from the Children's Square (presumably not catacombs, but a bomb shelter), exploring the underground world of Voronezh along long winding passages.
Locals say that strange sounds and even moans are often heard in the catacombs, sometimes frightening shadows were seen on the walls. It was said that it was the soul of some monk wandering underground, guarding the church treasures hidden there.
The intersection on the Zastava Square
There are quite a lot of lost places on the territory of Voronezh and its surroundings. One of the generally recognized dead spots in Voronezh is the intersection on Zastava Square (the intersection of Plekhanovskaya and Donbass streets). There are too many accidents on it, collisions with pedestrians, often ending in the death of people. Many attribute this to the negative energy associated with the location of the prison, hospital and morgue nearby, as well as the remaining influence of evil spirits living on the outskirts of the city (for a long time past, the border of the city passed through the Zastava square, and the highway to Moscow began at the beginning of Moskovsky Prospekt).
However, most likely this is due to the organization of traffic in this place, as in its time on the "mystical ring road" (Antonov-Ovseenko Street), where many accidents occurred before the organization of new street lighting, new markings and traffic lights.
Conclusion
The main places considered mystical and anomalous have a rich history, as well as Voronezh itself. They are often "promoted" to journalists. Usually these are points on the map where either a large number of people were killed or buried. Such places everywhere have a mystical coloring. All the stories about them tell of evidence at least twenty years ago, and in the last 10 years there have not even been city rumors about abnormal meetings.
There are extremely many places of this kind in Voronezh. In almost every yard you can find a story from the category "and a ghost appears in our elevator - a worker was crushed by an elevator when building a house there" or "an old man lived in our house, he liked to sit on this bench, sometimes now you can see his silhouette sitting there in the rain or late at night," etc.
Unfortunately, there are a lot of stories, and there are extremely few material confirmations (photos, videos). However, with the proper participation of eyewitnesses and victims, researchers of the unexplained have a place to turn around.
For information, a comment published on 16/12/2015 - 17:54 by the user Guest has been moved to the article:
Interesting stories, thanks for the list of places with a description, for the first time I met a similar one in the vastness of the Runet about Voronezh. I know about all the places not only from articles, personally and repeatedly visited, saw them before and after the update, so I think it's necessary to share my opinion with those who are getting acquainted with this list for the first time and with those who are interested in the paranormal phenomena of the city of Voronezh, but have never been here.
Some of the photos presented here have not been relevant for a long time, and the places described have long caused not panic and trembling, but strolling crowds and official events. So, for those who do not live in Voronezh, I bring to your attention that, for example, the park "The Living and the Dead" has already been restored, until 2012, not far from it on Deputatskaya St., you could see a lot of curbs from tombstones, but they have already been dismantled.
The same fate befell the park "Green" and the lake "Swan" on Minskaya Street. By the way, these places personally did not cause me inexplicable trepidation, they just looked unfriendly because of their neglect, but now everything is different.
Since 2014, the Thorn cemetery has turned into a memorial park, which is interesting to visit to learn the history of our city (I never thought that so many famous people and interesting people lived in our city), to look at the remaining monuments. But, by the way, about the lake, I worked not far from it for 5 years, the place itself is quite a pleasant place, but the residents of 125 and 127 houses on Leninsky Prospekt (the houses are near the lake) are teeming with psychos at different stages, one constantly asked from the balcony of the 3rd floor, "how long, granddaughter," the other shouted that her FBI rays irradiated, the third walked around the houses in summer clothes all year round, and so both houses! I have not seen such a number of schizonafts per square meter anywhere in the city! As far as I know, employees of one factory live in these houses (I don't remember the name), where they were apparently collectively "brain" planted.
Akatov Monastery, the former Chugunovsky cemetery and Lenin on the Central Square have never caused negative and strange associations, I generally like to walk around the monastery in my free time. The rotunda, in my opinion, is one of the most significant monuments. describing the horrors of the war, which tells us without words about that dark time, although a church is being built near it, and again, there were no feelings, even at the sight of this terrifying building. South Park became famous all over the world, even a BBC documentary was filmed about it in the early 90s, but nothing else ever happened there. The forest area near the Campus has always been a place for students to carouse, residents did not see UFOs, but drunken sophomores or vacationers.
But the Cave log is more interesting! since my work was partly connected with history, I had a chance to talk to people who participated in the construction of the memorial and talked about the oddities, and considering that these are not the craziest followers of the paranormal belief, and besides, not unknown people in the city, it was interesting! From personal experience, I will say that the places that can be called unusual (even paranormal) are the following: Sandy Log, Shilovsky Forest (places where active hostilities were conducted, there is always a feeling that someone is following you, unreasonable tension cannot be removed even in the most pleasant weather and the best company), Velvet Hillock (2 stairs from tombstones, plus bald mountain nearby, from where I observed 3 times, and not alone, strange phenomena at sunset), a mass grave on Kominternovsky the cemetery (I have heard about devilry in this place more than once, plus there is a very specific and echoing echo in the cemetery itself) and the village of Borovoye (it is considered the largest cluster of sorcerers, as experts say! HY).
I wrote a lot and in detail, I hope it will be useful to someone!
