Pauline Day said her team's "electric energy meters" were going haywire when the haunting pictures were taken at a graveyard in West Yorkshire. They show a mysterious mist forming in front of the camera as it takes a shape that resembles an older woman with her arm extended.
Rob Crabtree, 69, took the snaps of the gravestone in Todmorden Unitarian Church.
Rob, from Bradford, believes the final photo shows Sarah Agnes, who died aged 50 in 1927 and is buried in the plot with her husband, James Davenport.
He said: “We went out into the graveyard – it’s a real spooky place – and I took a few photos, and that’s one of the pictures that I caught.“If you read the gravestone there’s a lady buried there who was 27 and there’s also a lady that was 50, and I think it was her.
“I just got a feeling that it was her and the face looked older.”
He added: “Everybody can see it straight away that it’s a lady’s face. I’ve shown it to quite a few people and they’ve all made it out straight away.”
Rob, who says the churchyard wasn’t even misty at the time, recalls feeling drawn to that particular headstone.“I was drawn to it definitely,” he said. “I took pictures of one or two other gravestones but that one I took quite a few of.
“I did get the feeling I was in touch with someone.”
Pauline Day, who organised the charitable ghost hunt, said she had sensed a spirit at the graveside.
“I was calling out to her,” she said. “l could sense that she was there because our electric energy meters were going off.”
Hypotheses
Smoke
Smoke is a stable disperse system consisting of small solid particles suspended in gases produced by the combustion of anything. Smoke particles can serve as nuclei of condensation of atmospheric moisture, resulting in fog.
The smoke resulting from the combustion of various chemical substances can be accepted for the unusual color of the fog. For photos and videos it can give interesting the kind of education that can be mistaken for ghosts.
