One of the last new year's eve night, the police in the Belarusian city of Gomel has witnessed the emergence, over the regional centre of a number of unidentified flying objects. As follows from the official reports of the Ministry of interior of the Republic, near the Avenue of Cosmonauts in the centre of Gomel on duty a police squad watched "coming from the clouds to the ground a bright purple light." The light source for five hours was at an altitude of a few meters early in the morning and disappeared from the view of the vortices of the storm.

In accordance with the instructions, measures for detention has been taken, the firing of service weapon was not made. Pictures turned out very poor due to heavy snowfall. The police claimed that amazing beam of light slowly moving in a North-easterly direction, in the direction of Bryansk and Smolensk regions of Russia.
