Initial data
A man in Maryland claims that he and two others saw an unknown large bird that he believes is a Thunderbird.
The 55-year-old press cameraman, who wished to remain anonymous, was in the kitchen when his twin brother noticed the oddity.
“I was just about to have a snack. My brother lives next door and noticed a huge bird landing on a tree, " he said. "Then he told me and my mother to look"
The black feathered bird was reported to be perched on a tree 40 feet (12 m) high and measured about 5 feet (1.5 m) from head to talons.
The branch bent under the weight of the bird. It had a beak like an eagle's, with the point pointing down. When it took off from its perch, the amount of air it displaced was incredible as it tried to get up into the air, with the tree branches violently moving.
The wingspan is from tip to tip, approximately 12 feet (3.6 m). Conservative estimate.
The newspaper's operator said the unidentified bird was "absolutely not a vulture."
"I have no doubt that it was a Thunderbird. The surveillance allegedly took about 5 minutes, but no photos or videos were taken. "It happened one morning in 1972, so we didn't have any cameras with us.”
