A group of students at a school in Suva said they saw eight hairy little gnomes in reeds near the Latoka Methodist mission school.
The creatures were about two feet tall (0.6 m) and were covered in black hair and had white, glittering eyes. They ran into the bushes as the children approached, mysteriously disappearing into the hole and leaving no trace.
The children's excitement attracted teachers and other adults, but they didn't back down from their story. Their age ranged from 10 to 14 years.
One of the children, ruci Maribou, 11 years old, said:
"I saw his white shiny eyes and black hair. I was scared."
The stories of the Islands ' ancestors describe the "little people" who lived in Fiji when the Islands were first settled.

A group of students at a school in Suva claimed that they saw eight hairy little Dwarfin (Dwarfs) in the reeds near the Latoka Methodist Mission School. The beings, about two-foot high, were covered with black hair and had white, gleaming eyes; they ran off into the bush when the children approached, disappearing mysteriously in a pit and leaving no traces. The children’s excitement brought teachers and other adults, but they stuck to their story. They ranged in age from 10 to 14. One of the children, Ruci Murioubu, 11, said, “I saw his white, gleaming eyes and black hair. I was frightened.” Stories of the islands ancestors described “little men” living in Fiji when the islands were first settled.
