UFO near the Cherokee nuclear power plant. At 12:30 p.m., Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Ruppe of Gaffney, South Carolina, were roused from their sleep by the sound of a siren (as if something had taken off).
They looked out of the Windows of their home just in time to see a glowing oval-shaped UFO about 20 feet (6 m) above their neighbor's house. The neighborhood dogs were barking furiously.
The UFO, described as "the size of a Winnebago trailer, "had two " light beams" at the bottom of the object. It was orange and yellow in color and made a high-pitched sound as it crossed power lines and moved East toward the Cherokee nuclear plant.
The UFO was observed for about five minutes, its length was estimated at about 20 feet (6 m), and its height was from 8 to 10 feet (2.4 - 3 m).
