Initial data
An eyewitness from the city of Zoetermeer writes:
Last week, when I went to smoke a cigarette from my yard, a strange white light (spherical) appeared in the clouds. I thought it was a drone, so I didn't think about it anymore. To the present day.
Around 22: 30, this strange light reappeared, just like the first time I saw it. I went out with my father to see what it might be.
This strange object did not fly on a straight course, but swung from side to side in a serpentine way. In height, it flew at the standard height of clouds, so in principle it can be seen with the naked eye.
In places where there were no clouds, this object seemed to disappear and reappear in the clouds above. It took about half an hour until it dissolved and the object disappeared.
Original news
Hypotheses
Light sources on clouds
Lasers, searchlights, car headlights and other light sources of sufficient power can form a column of light in a dusty or foggy atmosphere, various patterns on low clouds, fog or haze. Also, the rays can highlight parts of the cloud, objects or birds, giving them bizarre shapes.
Searchlights can shine with one beam, several. They can be stationary, move, and also form spinning carousels on the clouds, which can change shape and color.
It often seems that the light source is located at the point where the beam hits the cloud, and not vice versa.
Events
Rocket launches (from space.skyrocket.de)
- Site: Satish Dhawan Space Center (Sriharikota Space Center), Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh (India) Vehicle: PSLV-XL Payload: GSat 12R (CMS 01)
Investigation
Based on the appearance (blurred, elongated when moving away from the center, the description of an eyewitness "In places where there were no clouds, this object seemed to disappear and reappear in the clouds above", etc.), this is a searchlight beam on low clouds.
