Michael Shane Kirkpatrick and a friend were fishing in an artificial lake located 100 yards (90 m) from Kirkpatrick's house when they ran out of bait, a friend of Kirkpatrick volunteered to bring more bait, leaving him alone.
A few minutes later, he heard what sounded like a popping sound above him. He looked up and saw the biggest bird he had ever seen.
It was directly above small trees about 15-20 feet (4.5-6 m) high. It was brown in color with small light stripes. The wingspan was at least 20 feet (6 m) from wing tip to wing tip and at least 10 feet (3 m) in length.
The witness tried to attract the attention of his friend, but the bird flew up and disappeared.

A few minutes later he heard what sounded like a flapping sound above him. He looked up and saw the biggest bird he had ever seen. It was just above some small trees that were about 15 – 20 feet high. It was brown colored with small light colored strips on it. The wingspan was at least 20 feet from wing tip to wing tip and at least 10 feet long. The witness attempted to obtain his friend’s attention but the bird flew high up and disappeared.
