On Easter night in Juneau, Alaska, a friend and I saw a strange bright object at a low altitude, flashing orange and green rotating colors.
When I looked through my telescope (we were looking at the comet and the planets), it had this strange light and dark light, a pattern or field around and above it, like patterns of light diffraction. No other stars were so low or had such an effect. I couldn't see the colors through the telescope. Only by observation with the naked eye. I was visiting a friend, and we were looking at a comet on Easter night, and she said:
"Hey, look at this satellite!»
I was looking north and pointed my Mead telescope at it. It was flashing orange and green as it rotated... then I looked at it through the scope and to my surprise, I couldn't identify the colors! Instead, he had this really strange light field ... of dark and bright lines above and around it ... like a picture of light diffraction. The object was really bright white with these strange lines running around it in a strange striped pattern. Colors cannot be detected with the scope! Then I thought it was my lens, so I focused on a bright star, and the patterns weren't present on anything else!
When I looked again with my eyes alone, I saw flashing rotating orange and green lights, but when I used the scope, all I saw were strange dark and light patterns. It was low in the sky and motionless. I was looking north, and he was on my right. I looked at this from time to time for about 2 hours while I was looking at the comet and Mars.
I went home, I live a block away from that place, and when I got to my house and looked up again to find it, it wasn't there - to my right! I was still looking north. I looked to my left, and there it was! It was so close (low) that one engine block was enough to move it. So it was located between my friends ' house and mine!
I don't think the high-altitude geosynchronous satellites would be low enough to cause such a big difference if I moved just one block away! Plus later, after 2 days of clouds, he was nowhere to be seen! I've never seen anything out of the ordinary before. I know what Venus, Mars, and other planets look like in my scope, so I'm pretty sure it wasn't a planet!
My friend saw the colored lights because she pointed them out to me, but she went into her house while I stayed outside and looked at the sky and at the "object". It was too cold for her!

I was still facing north. I looked to my left and there it was! It was so close(low)that a one block drive was enough to move it over. So it means it was positioned in between my friends house and mine! I dont think high altitude geosynchronous satellites would be low enough to cause that much of a difference if I moved only a block away!
