Izvestia's own correspondent in Maputo (issue dated 27.02.88 ) wrote:

"After I sent a message to Izvestia about a mysterious object that I saw in the sky from the plane that took off from Beira, the newspaper Diario di Mozambique, published in this city, came. Three photos of UFOs and a story about how many residents of the city observed it were published there.

The observation at the meteorological station was carried out with binoculars, but the naked eye could also see a brightly glowing object hovering motionless over Beira.

According to the local station, it was not an artificial satellite or a probe. The oblong body had two "whiskers" and two bright "eyes". According to the commander of the passenger plane "Boeing-737" of the national airline LAM, he saw a glowing UFO from the pilot's cabin and turned on the airplane headlights, as if attracting his attention.

At this moment, both" eyes " of the mysterious object went out, and he began to fall off to the side, quickly disappearing in a southerly direction..."
