"Hello, my name is Sarah Whitehead. Do you know where I can find my brother? He said that he works for you."
The employees of the Bank of England exchanged glances among themselves. How can I tell her that Philip (that was the name of the girl's relative) was executed a month ago for forgery of documents and theft of 3,000 pounds? And does she even know that her brother was so addicted to gambling that by the end of his life he was mired in huge debts?
Sarah was never given an answer, citing a strong employment, but she did not give up. The girl began to look into the bank every day until one of the employees could not stand it and told her everything as it is. This news shocked Sarah so much that she fell into despair and began to come more often.
Over time, the black clothes and the girl's obsession began not just to annoy, but to frighten the bank employees. They were also afraid for their customers, who had already complained more than once about a strange woman standing at the entrance. To get rid of the distraught Sarah, Philip's colleagues offered her a large sum of money on the condition that she would never cross the threshold of the building again. The woman kept her promise and did not appear again.
A few years later, when the metro station of the same name was built next to the bank, one of its employees noticed a woman dressed in black who approached the passengers and asked:
"Have you seen my brother by any chance?"
After a while, she disappeared, but the passengers of the Bank station often told about the feeling of despondency that they suddenly began to experience, about the screams and groans that echo through the platforms.
In general, the next time you are at this station, do not be surprised if the old woman in black asks you where her brother is.
