In the October issue of AMAZING STORIES (the year is not specified), there was the following letter:
Until the 8th of this month, I was riding a bus near Des Moines, Springfield and Southern Routes, 312 2nd Street, Des Moines, Iowa. On this day, I was discharged due to the fact that we did not get along with the dispatcher.
But to get along with my story. On June 29, 1947, I left Des Moines, Iowa, at 1: 30 p.m. on my usual schedule, heading for Mason City, Iowa, a distance of 165 miles. I read stories about "Flying Saucers" in the newspapers, but I laughed at them. When I was about a few miles from Clarion, Iowa, an object was shot across the sky in front of me at an altitude of about 1200 feet. This object was quite large, followed by four more. And I'm one of those people who needs to figure out what's going on, when something happens, I stopped the bus and got off. When I got off the bus, which was facing east, I noticed several objects in the sky flying from the opposite direction from where the first five were moving, that is, approximately south to southeast. In this group there were 13 objects flying in one row. They were about the same height as the first ones, and, as far as I know, had a speed of about 300 miles per hour. They were roughly between a circle and an oval in shape. In appearance, they resembled an inverted saucer flying through the air. At the thickest part, they were, I would say, about 12 feet thick. As for the diameter, they could be from 175 to 250 feet. And they were "dirty white". They disappeared into the north-northwest sky in a couple of minutes. They made a noise when they flew overhead, like an electric motor or a dynamo. I saw the disks around 16: 45.
Editor, I am not one of those people who can be impressed by what the public says, and I am not subject to nervous attacks, and my imagination never runs away with me. When I see something, it really is there. And I saw the disks. As for what they were or where they came from, I am completely in the dark. But I will say: "They are not natives of the planet Earth." Or so I think.
I have been interested in science fiction and facts about the stars since I learned to read. The first thing I read was the comic book "Buck Rogers". Then the guy who ran the newsstand gave me a pack of science fiction with the covers torn off. I think it was about 1936. I was about nine years old at the time. I am now 21 years old. So you can see how long I've been reading this.
I have always been interested in interplanetary travel. I hope that someday I will be able to do something myself. I hope that someday I will be able to do something myself. Richard Shaver and I agree with these stories that he wrote. I know something that happened, similar to what happened to him. If you are interested, contact me, and I will be happy to write them to you - confidentially, because whenever I think about one of them, a deadly coldness arises in my head. I never told anyone about them, because they would think that I was absolutely, crazy. In fact, it scares me. So if it helps, for God's sake, let me tell them. Every time I think about this single transaction, it seems to me that something captures my brain and begins to press. And until I start thinking about something else, I'm in agony. MORE FLYING DISCS

I bought the October issue of AMAZING STORIES about a week ago, but for some reason or other, I haven't had the time to read it until this morning. I noticed inthe "Observatory" your article about the flying discs, asking for information about them.
Until the 8th of this month, I was driving a bus near the Des Moines, Springfield and Southern Routes, 312 2nd Street, Des Moines, Iowa. I was discharged on this date due to the fact that the traffic manager and myself could not get along together.
But to get along with my story. On June 29, 1947 I left Des Moines, Iowa at 1:30 P.M. on my regular schedule, bound for Mason City, Iowa, a distance of 165 miles. I had been reading the "Flying Saucers" tales in the newspapers, but I had been scoffing at them. When I was about some miles out of Clarion, Iowa there was an object shot across the sky in front of me at a roughly estimated height of 1200 feet.
