In 2004, the police were informed that a man-killer attacked a young girl and almost dragged her into the river. A year later, a resident of Newberry reported that two lizard people were wandering near her house. The sheriff took the signal skeptically. The police squad that arrived at the scene did not find anything.

A more serious message, confirmed by photographs, came to the police in February 2008 from the Rawson couple from Bishopville. An unknown creature ruined their car and, according to Dixie Rawson, just "bit off a piece of the van." At the same time, the skin of the car on the wing bent, as she put it, like a sheet of paper. Several cats also disappeared, and someone tore up a towel on a rope and morning newspapers. Traces of blood were found at the site of the barbaric raid. Her samples were handed over to the state authorities, and as it turned out later, the blood belonged to a domestic dog. Nevertheless, Bob and Dixie Rawson are still convinced that their yard was visited by a lizard man. A few weeks after the alleged monster attack on the Rawsons' car, the sheriff's men found the mutilated corpses of a cow and a dog near the swamp.

Then it was suggested that the car could have been mutilated by feral dogs with strong jaws - like a bull terrier or a Rottweiler. However, according to experts, it is hardly possible to recognize it as real that they would use the car as a chewing toy. Bears can hack into a car to get inside and get to the food left there, but they will never chew the fender or hood of a car for pleasure.
