Mermaid. Russia

On a warm summer day in 1890, the teacher of the Tambov gymnasium, Foma Fomich Prosvetov, was walking along the bank of the Tsna. Suddenly, on a wooden bridge jutting out of the river, he noticed a creature that looked like a woman. If Foma had not known that it was very dangerous to swim behind the catwalk – there was a pool there, he would not have paid much attention to her, but then he began to look closely ... There was a creature in front of him, in the presence of which he had never believed - a mermaid!

A few seconds later she slipped into the water and did not show up again…The teacher hesitated for as long as twelve years before finally deciding to write to the Provincial Gazette about this meeting, giving a clear and dry description of the mermaid and expressing the hope that his letter could help confirm "the existence of a phenomenon that is still almost unknown to naturalists, or reduce the skepticism of those who are always ready to challenge everything that they are not able to comprehend."
