Grandmothers from the village of Verkhnespasskoye recalled an unusual case when they were still children:
"It was after the war, in 1946. Then they decided to go with their girlfriends to the nearest forest for berries.
And the forest began right after the village, only half a mile to go. Berries have not really been found, apparently, they have already collected everything. We walked around, ate some berries, and did not notice how dusk fell on the forest. Let's go back to the village, but there is no trace of a path, as if it had disappeared! They began to look for a path home, walked-walked and came out on a deaf unfamiliar edge. We look – there is a stump in the middle of the edge, and a bearded old man is sitting on it.
We've never seen him (everyone in our village knows each other), and we didn't know. We approached him and greeted him. And only then did they notice that there was a large basket full of berries next to him. "Are you girls lost? I know, I know. Take some berries and eat them." We took some and asked him where we could find a path to the village.
He replied that we should go straight and go out where we needed to. We thanked him, and went where the old man pointed out to us. And indeed, they quickly found a path, and reached the village. They told Mom everything at home. She said it was a forester. How many times we went to the forest after that, but we never saw either the edge or grandfather."
