Initial data
This incident happened a long time ago, but the story is still remembered and told to young soldiers. In the post-revolutionary time, when the young Soviet republic was just getting on its feet, and the states: Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan - were simply called Turkestan. There was a fierce and bloody struggle with Basmachism in those parts.
The first border posts were established in the foothills of Kopetdag, border guards prevented the passage of gangs of formations and the smuggling of contraband.
I apologize for such a long preface, but there is no way without it. So, I'll move on to the story itself. A young replenishment has arrived at the border guard. The soldiers were given a brief tour and strictly instructed to always be on the alert, not to leave the outpost territory. Since there have been cases of abduction. And so the "young" took up the first guard.
The night, the commanders passed, checked the posts, everything is calm, everything is in order. A young soldier, leaning against the fence, dozed off. Literally immediately I heard the command: "Private, attention!" In the dark I saw a man in a leather jacket and a cap.
- I am your political instructor, Nikolay Nikolaevich Semenov! - the officer introduced himself.
- Who is sleeping on duty?! And ruin yourself and the garrison, the Basmachi are not asleep!
The officer turned around and disappeared into the darkness.
In the morning, the guard was changed, after a rest, the soldiers, walking through the territory of the detachment, approached the monument topped with a red star. And all as one recognized the night inspector. The same officer was looking at them from the photo.
Only some time later, the recruits learned that six months before their appearance at the outpost there was an attack, the guards were asleep and did not hear how the enemy got close, as a result, a lot of people died, the same political instructor died.
