In 1941, the Sunday Mail newspaper told the story of a man who built a hut for himself and his wife in Queensland. The hut stood in a secluded place on the shore of a pond - not far from the railway station where the man worked. His wife was usually not afraid to be alone while her husband was at work, but one day, when he returned home, he found his wife in hysterics.
She was practically insane from fright, but her husband still managed to find out what happened. It turned out that left alone, the woman heard terrible screams and crying coming from the pond.
The man decided that she was frightened by the cries of some bird, and he did not take his wife's words seriously. A few weeks later, he was sent on a short business trip for two days, and he quietly left home, although his wife begged him to stay.
When he returned home, he saw that his wife was on the verge of insanity - while her husband was not at home, crying and screaming from under the water were constantly heard. Then the man was seriously scared, took his wife and never returned to this dwelling.
At work, he told about the reason why he left his home. His colleagues took his story skeptically, but two of them decided to spend the night in the open air next to the pond for the sake of laughter.
They were sitting by the fire, laughing at other people's fears, and suddenly in the middle of the night there was such a terrible howling and crying from the pond that two young healthy men threw all their belongings and ran away.
The case was made public, and one of the old-timers said that a long time ago the body of a murdered boy was found in this pond. After that, some of the locals decided that a ghost lived in the pond. However, their opponents believe that this is the screeching of an owl or some other animal. However, the reason for crying from the pond remains unclear.
