Initial data
In 2004, the climber Sherpa P. Dorje, after a difficult but successful ascent, saw something incredible - shadows resembling human silhouettes were approaching him. There were about ten of them. Ghostly shadows begged for warmth and food, stretching out their translucent hands.
Frightened, Dorje turned abruptly and hurried to continue the descent. Subsequently, he told this story to journalists. After his interview, the president of the Nepalese Mountaineering Organization Ang Tsering himself suggested that these were the souls of the dead climbers and they would not rest until they were buried properly.
After this incident, the Nepalese perform a ritual for calming the souls of the dead climbers at each ascent. They burn juniper branches on the slope, scatter rice and say prayers. According to popular beliefs, this ritual should give warmth to the dead and appease their hunger.
