In mid-April 1846, the kawaraban news plates in Kumamoto Prefecture mention the appearance of Ama-biko. In the local sea, fishermen saw strange lights at night for several days. It was so unusual that the local manager went to the sea to check the rumors about the lights. When he came and then Ama-biko appeared out of the water. She looked like a sea maiden, but instead of a mouth she had a bird's beak, and the whole body, starting from the neck, was covered with scales.
Seeing the manager, Ama-biko said:
"I am Ama—biko, living in the sea. We should expect a good harvest here in the next six years, but if there is an epidemic, then show me the images of the sick, and they will recover immediately."
After that, the yokai plunged into the sea again.
