The official count of Nahuelito's observations has been conducted since 1910, when a certain George Garrett, while in a boat near the shore, allegedly saw at a distance of about 400 meters from himself a creature whose body length ranged from 16 to 23 feet, with a neck protruding from the water by about 6.6 feet. The natives told George that it was Nahuelito.
