Legends about this place became known thanks to a report released in the early eighties by the magazine of paranormal phenomena "Unknown World" under the title "Lights in the secret door".
The report in question was based on a photograph taken by Prudencio Muguruza in 1981, in which a UFO appeared in the vicinity of Ochate.
Despite the fact that a group of experts questioned the image (revealed two months later), the University of Bilbao could not prove that the image was false.

Estas leyendas se dieron a conocer debido a un reportaje lanzado a principios de los años ochenta por la revista de fenómenos paranormales “Mundo Desconocido”, cuyo título era “Luces en la Puerta Secreta”•. El reportaje en cuestión estaba basado en una fotografía que Prudencio Muguruza hizo en 1981, en la cuál aparecía un ovni en las proximidades de Ochate. Pese a que un grupo de expertos cuestionó la instantánea (revelada dos meses después), la Universidad de Bilbao no pudo demostrar que la imagen era falsa.
