One of the first cases of diurnal phenomena known in history and still unexplained is recorded in an engraving of the XVI century, in the chronicle of Samuel Coccius, an engraving depicting the appearance in the sky of the Swiss city of Basel, in 1566, of some "large, white and black spheres, some turning red and fiery." Spheres that worried the inhabitants of those times.

Unul dintre primele cazuri de fenomene diurne ce se cunosc in istorie si neexplicate pana acum este consemnat intr-o gravura de epoca din secolul XVI, in cronica lui Samuel Coccius, gravura ce prezinta aparitia pe cerul orasului elvetian Basel, in anul 1566, a unor ,,sfere mari, albe si negre, unele devenind rosii si infocate’’, sfere ce au tulburat locuitorii acelor timpuri.
