Time: 22:45
Location: New Lynn, Waitakere, Auckland, North Island.
Features/Characteristics: bright light performs a sharp turn
Description:
Spotty clouds with wind direction from north to south; the duration of aiming is about 15-20 seconds.
The witness, an ambulance employee, saw a large star-shaped light, which he initially mistook for a satellite. It moved across the sky from south to north (the observer was looking west) at about the same speed as the satellite, until it suddenly stopped for a moment, and then randomly moved at an angle of 45 degrees for about 4-5 seconds before instantly "disappearing", as if it had been "turned off, like a light bulb." The observer described the angles of movement of light as "faster than I can compare with anything."
