A report on the observation of an unusual phenomenon in the village of Zaozerye of the Pustoshinsky district of the Pskov region.

In 1985, I spent a vacation in the Pskov region. On September 12, from 22-30, while in the house, I saw a whitish spot through the window in the northern part of the sky. It interested me and I went outside. The weather was cloudless, there was no moon, only a lot of stars sparkled. A weak north-easterly wind blew 1-2 m/sec.

The spot was round in shape, with blurred contours. The apparent dimensions were 3-4- the diameter of the sun at the horizon (for control, I tried the next day to determine the angular dimensions of the spot, they were 2 cm at arm's length for me). The glow was quite faint, but clearly visible, like a bright nebula.

Over time, the spot slowly shifted on the plane from east to west, completely unnoticed by the eye. Its height above the horizon practically did not change. The shape gradually changed, became elongated. The area of the spot has also decreased somewhat. the intensity of the glow gradually decreased, at the end of the observation it was barely noticeable, like a faint nebula. At 23-20, the spot completely ceased to exist.

I want to draw attention to one fact, although it may not be relevant to this phenomenon. At 23:00, I recorded a flight through the zenith of a weak asterisk from the CER to the South. its glow had a flashing character, and the apparent speed exceeded the speed of an artificial satellite of the earth by 2-3 times. The object was in the field of view for 3-4 seconds.

The next day, from memory, I made some simple measurements using a compass and a transporter. It turned out that the upper edge of the spot had an elevation of 15-18 degrees above the horizon. the azimuth of the direction to the spot at the time of fixation is 355 degrees (which corresponds to the rhumb S-Z of 5 degrees. during the observation, the spot shifted by 5-7 degrees.)
