Bindas A.B. writes to the Commission on the:
What I'm going to talk about, I happened to observe during my stay in the North.
Almost 2 years have passed since then, but I have clearly recorded in my memory what I saw.As I remember now, it was on a polar night, January 1981. A glowing object appeared above the village (Khatanga). At first I took it for a lantern. But as the subject approached, I realized that I was mistaken. It is impossible to say that this object was approaching, in the full sense of the word, because it appeared as if by chance, unexpectedly. The impression was created as if some kind of aircraft was hovering in the air and directing scattered light to the ground. It was not possible to see its shape and contours. In a word, a glowing spot.
I observed this phenomenon 2 times, it lasted from 5 to 7 minutes. Then this body, if you can call it that, disappeared from view along a spiral trajectory. This phenomenon was observed by many residents of Khatanga told each other. Different people were watching at different times, but they were talking about the same thing.
There was a case when the pilot of the AN-26 aircraft that took off with excitement, almost shouting, reported that a glowing object was moving towards him.
At that time, Harangu was passing at an altitude of about 12,000 m IL-62 and confirmed that he was observing a glowing object in motion below him. We immediately informed the air Defense. But on our locators and air defense, too, the target was not detected, although it was visible visually.
This phenomenon was observed periodically for about a month. no one could explain what it was. It was assumed that this is a natural phenomenon.
And I'm still at a loss to guess what it could be?
