The phenomenon of an unidentified flying object (UFO) remains a source of surprises. To the huge amount of eyewitness accounts presented in recent days, we can add a message from a pilot of a commercial Chilean airline claiming to have seen them.
In August 1982, Carlos Parada, a LAN-Chile pilot and flight instructor with over 30 years of experience, made a routine flight between Buenos Aires and Santiago. At about 20:00, flying over the Argentine community of Villa Reynol, in the company of the entire crew, he was able to witness the maneuvers of a strange glowing object.
"It looked like the disk of the moon. It was silvery-white in color, surrounded by a large ring of intense black," said Parada, saying that he decided to tell his story, despite the fact that many years have passed, due to the significant amount of information about UFOs that has appeared in the media in recent weeks.
According to him, the glowing object moved slowly in front of the Boeing 737 for five minutes, and then disappeared at high speed over the side of the airliner.
"Throughout this period, we could rule out the possibility that it was some kind of natural phenomenon, such as the moon or a reflection," he added.
After consulting with the tower at Villa Reynol, they learned that the object was also visible from this location, which once again confirmed that it did not correspond to any meteorological or military device launched from any Argentine ground station.
Subsequently, Parada reported that "on the radio of our airliner, we were able to eavesdrop on two other airliners — one from Aerolíneas Argentinas and the other from Línea Austral, requesting information about UFOs."

In August 1982, Carlos Parada, a pilot and flight instructor for LAN-Chile, with over 30 years’ experience, took a routine flight between Buenos Aires and Santiago. Around 20:00 hours, while flying over the Argentinean community of Villa Reinol, and in the company of the entire crew, he was able to witness the maneuvers of a strange luminous object.
"It was like the disc of the moon. It was silvery white in color, surrounded by a larger ring of an intense black color," Parada noted, saying that he decided to tell his story, despite the passing of many years, due to the considerable amount of UFO information appearing in the media in recent weeks.
The luminous object, according to his story, traveled slowly in front of the Boeing 737 for five minutes prior to vanishing at high speed down the side of the airliner. "Throughout this period, we were able to dismiss the possibility that it was any natural phenomenon, such as the moon or a reflection," he added.
Upon consulting the tower at Villa Reinol, they learned that the object had also been seen from that location, further confirming that it did not correspond to any weather or military device launched from any Argentinean ground station.
Parada subsequently indicated that "on our airliner's radio, we were able to overhear two other liners - one from Aerolíneas Argentinas and another from Línea Austral, requesting information on the UFO."
