From a letter to the Commission on:
Nikolai Petrovich Sherstnev, captain of the 1st rank of the reserve, addresses you. I live in Leningrad on the island of the Decembrists on the shore of the Gulf of Finland. The view of the bay is beautiful both day and night.
So, on May 23, watching the movement of ships along the Malaya Neva and the Gulf through binoculars, I discovered 2 strange luminous objects in the sky that moved very slowly from south to north, hovering in one place for a long time. The vertical distance to them was, in my opinion, up to 10 km (from 7 to 10). they were observed at an altitude of 7-8 thousand meters. I cannot vouch for the accuracy, because the night (if it is white) is very difficult to determine such distances. The size of the objects was equal to the size of the morning Venus. Through binoculars, their sizes were large. At one point, when the objects unfolded, I managed to sketch their appearance: the clear boundaries of the object were clearly expressed. Objects appeared on the left, moved to the right and then moved away to the west or northwest.
After May 25, objects continued to appear, but at a much greater distance. The movement takes place in the directions shown in the figure. The objects were watched by the whole family: me (I am 60 years old), my wife, son, daughter and grandson. And friends were watching these objects. He informed journalists Yeliseyev Viktor Vasilyevich and Lisov Gennady Petrovich about the observed event. Viktor Vasilyevich Eliseev recommended that we inform you about this. Captain Raigorovsky of the 2nd rank was also interested in this. Naval Academy.
