Initial data
The director of the Karelian Hydrometeorological Observatory writes about the observation of an unusual phenomenon in the sky on 17.09.77 in the sky over Lake Onega.
September I7, 1977, at night in the family of an engineer at a machine-tool plant (power engineering department) Kozlov Valentin Borisovich, who lives in Petrozavodsk, was woken up by his wife Anna Fedorovna crying.
Getting out of bed to go over and calm the child, Anna Fyodorovna noticed some unnatural light in the room from the outdoor lighting. Looking out the window, she saw in the sky over the Petrozavodsk bay of Lake Onega in a northeasterly direction a luminous object at an angle, approximately, to the horizon, from which, as she decided, this unnatural light emanated.
This prompted her to wake up her husband and share with him the unusual sight she saw in the sky.
By chance, V.B. Kozlov's Zenit-E camera with an Industriar-50-2 lens turned out to be charged with a color reversible film with a sensitivity of 22 units. He decided to take a picture of an object observed over the lake, which was not moving at that time, but was, as it seemed, in a stationary state.
At the time of shooting 4 frames, pinnate clouds were floating above the object. Then it was covered by low clouds, which were still slightly illuminated by this object. However, further exposure of this object, as V.B. Kozlov considered, was not necessary to continue, and therefore he stopped shooting it.
At this time, the child began to cry a second time and the Kozlovs, looking at the clock, the hands of which showed 4 hours and 40 minutes, determined that the shooting of the above four frames lasted for 3 minutes.
According to the Kozlovs, they did not attach any importance to the object they observed in the sky at first, so they began to develop and take pictures later, before the New Year, especially since the entire film had already been completely filmed by that time.
When the pictures of 4 frames of this object were made, Comrade. Kozlov V.B. showed them to his flatmate T. Bessarabov Leonid Ivanovich, who works at the same factory as T. Kozlov V.B.
Comrade Bessarabov drew Kozlov V.B.'s attention to an event in the sky that took place on the night of September 20, 1977 over Lake Onega and Petrozavodsk, linking it by analogy with the fact of the observational data.
The description was compiled in March 1978 by TASS correspondent for the Karelian ASSR Comrade. Nikolai Petrovich Milov and I on the content of a personal conversation with Comrade. Kozlov V.B. regarding the observation and photographing of an unidentified object in the sky over Lake Onega on September 17, 1977.
