Yu. V.Linnik writes to the commission on:
Together with L.I. Schneider (Riga) I observed an unusual sight in the night sky on the night of 3 to 4/8-1980. The first UFO was seen by L.I. Schneider.
Bright (approximately minus sixth magnitude) The object was moving amazingly slowly in the southeastern part of the sky towards the northeast. The object was projected onto the constellations of the Triangle, Aries and Andromeda.
I had to observe a lot of meteors and fireballs. But I have never seen such a mesmerizingly strange movement. It is very difficult to verbalize this feeling, and yet I dare say that there was some kind of impression in the graceful and free movement of the object
reasonable expediency.I managed to examine the object in some detail with binoculars.
It had the shape of a strongly elongated ellipsoid, around which a cone of light, weaker in intensity of radiance, was visible. The start of the observation is approximately 0.45 Moscow time. The observation lasted about a minute. During this time, the object has traveled a distance comparable in length to the "chain" of Andromeda. The object almost suddenly disappeared from view: at first, its luminosity dropped discretely by about two-thirds, to the abyss of the August night.
