Bogomolov M.A., art. scientific Associate Professor of the Geological Faculty of Moscow State University, PhD. Geol.-min. of Sciences informs the Commission on:
On October 14, 1980, at 17:50, I drove up in a car to the Davydkovo microdistrict along Kutuzovsky Prospekt in Moscow. The editor of the geological editorial office of the Mir publishing house, V.S. Krasnova, was with me in the car.
The sun had just set, and in the sunset part of the sky illuminated by its rays, light layered clouds were scattered, illuminated from below with pink light. Among these clouds, one stood out, which attracted our attention with its strong luster and shape. It resembled in size and shape a month lying on its side in a quarter of the lunar phase, but not an inclined month, as usual, but lying horizontally, horns up, in the form of a boat.
At the first moment, I took it for a month - this object shone so much. However, at the next glance, after a few seconds, it suddenly turned out that exactly the same one was starting to loom to his left
the same object, as if from a rapidly expanding small cloud. After a while, both of these objects became equal in size and shape, which by this point began to resemble a somewhat deformed rhombus. At this time, from below, in the direction of the later formed object, the contrail of the aircraft began to grow, as it seemed to us, but broke off before reaching the object (the beginning of the trace was not visible because of the houses).
This trail also shone brightly, illuminated by the rays of the setting sun. Some small luminous dots appeared between the end of the trace that did not reach the object and the left object, but quickly disappeared. All this time we stood still and watched.
After about five minutes, the sun, setting further, stopped illuminating first the left object, and then the right one. At the same time, the glow decreased sharply and objects against the background of a bluish sky began to be observed in the form of two dark dumbbells arranged horizontally.
The "contrail" began to fade much later, apparently, it was located somewhat to the west. From our point of observation, the objects were located in a direction with an azimuth of about 330 ° and at an altitude above the horizon not exceeding 10°.
At 18 o'clock we stopped monitoring.
