A fisherman named Lamaoli claimed that on March 15, 2000, he saw Xizi attack a dog in the village of Daluo in Xishuangbanna province.
According to Lamaoli, he was fishing in the river when he saw "a dark woolen object, similar to a blanket, which floated to the surface and moved towards him. He had two small shiny eyes, as well as a pair of wing appendages."
The animal plunged into the water and disappeared when he threw a stone at it, but at night Lamaoli woke up and found that it was attacking the puppy, and the mother dog was biting it. Although he eventually gave up and left, the puppy later bled to death and was covered in bowl-sized scars.
