Stanislav Vladimirovich Zotov (artist) tells the story.
During a trip to the Volosovsky district for agricultural work in September 1957, I somehow left the house where we lived at about 2 a.m.
Right at the zenith in the sky I saw a very large circle of smoky color (the night was dark and moonless, I don't remember if there were stars).
From the horizon line, from all sides, searchlight-type rays stretched towards the circle, at least 15, possibly more. And he was, as it were, in the center of a tent of rays. The rays were stationary at first, then began to rotate around the circle at a very high speed, without intersecting. After a while, the rotation stopped and after a pause of 1-2 minutes, the rotation resumed.
And so it went on all the time of observation (about 15 minutes), moreover, the stops were not abrupt, but gradual, not fast, like a carousel.
The "carousel" rotated all the time in one direction - counterclockwise. During the rotation, the color was not only smoky, silvery, but also rainbow tones appeared, which is why I thought it might be the aurora borealis.
The spectacle was very impressive in its scope, cosmic, not earthly.
I don't remember if I saw the ending or not.
