David Rowland Langford is known for his fantastic and parody works. One of the latter left a tangible mark in ufology, since it was perceived as a real story, and not as a humorous work. This is a "Description of a meeting with the inhabitants of another world, 1871" written by him in 1979 under the pseudonym William Robert Loosley, on whose behalf the narrative is conducted. Unfortunately, it was not possible to find the original text either in Russian or in English.

Nevertheless, we can indirectly judge its content based on the works of other authors who refer to this material as a real document. So, the writer Whitley Strieber refers to this "Victorian-era manuscript about UFO contact" in his novel "Majestic", published in 1989. According to the author, the novel is based on carefully researched indirect information, but it includes the content of a "Description of a meeting with the inhabitants of another world, 1871" without permission or attribution, as stated on Langford's website.

On various sites telling the story of the appearance of UFOs, this case is also mentioned:

High Wycombe - Great Britain (October 4, 1871)

For more than 100 years, the secret of William Robert Lusley, a carpenter, has been kept secret. His granddaughter found a description of the event among the documents in the drawer of his old bureau. At that time, Wycombe was a very small village. On October 4, at 3.15 am, William woke up, felt unwell and went out into the garden. A star burning brighter than the full moon passed through the sky, followed by a thunderclap, amazing, as the sky was clear and cloudless. The object stopped completely, began to oscillate downward. He seemed to be approaching the nearest forest. The next day, Luzli went in search of the item. For a long time, he pierced a pile of dry leaves with his cane, and suddenly saw something strange: a metal object similar to a container, about 55-60 cm long, covered with strange bubbles.

"Suddenly, the container opened, making the sound of a well-oiled shutter, and something like an eye covered with glass began to appear from it, measuring 2 by 3 cm. A few seconds later, a second eye appeared, emitting a beam of purple light. Then the third one opened, which was slightly larger than the pencil barrel. I didn't want to stay there anymore. After I moved away, the device began to draw three small potholes in the soil. Suddenly I realized that similar potholes were located on all sides. The device stopped for a short moment, something like pliers appeared from it and pulled a dead rat out of the ground. Then the corpse was sprayed with liquid and sent to a container. In my haste to leave, I lost my cane, and the device swallowed it up. It was following me, and another, larger, metal box was moving very close to it."

In a panic, he looked up and saw a light as bright as the moon, which seemed to be giving a signal. Before he could determine the sequence, the light went out. Then Luzli ran away to his house. At night he could not sleep, and through the window he saw a light that was heading towards the path he was following. After a while, the light source rose and finally disappeared. He got out of bed, described all the events on a piece of paper and closed the manuscript in his bureau. Lusley died in 1893.

It's interesting

David Rowland Langford is known for his fantastic and parody works. In 1979, under the pseudonym William Robert Loosley, he wrote a short story "Description of a meeting with the inhabitants of another world, 1871", which accidentally left a tangible trace in ufology.  It was referred to by writer Whitley Strieber in his novel Majestic, published in 1989, as a "Victorian-era manuscript about UFO contact," which is why the original was perceived by many as a real story, and not as a humorous work.
